The Straight Story

This gentle, moving film is based on the true story of Alvin Straight, who travels across Iowa on a lawnmower to visit his estranged, ailing brother. Departing from Lynch's usual surreal style, the film is simple, sincere and quietly powerful. Richard Farnsworth gives a remarkable Oscar-nominated performance and Sissy Spacek is excellent as Rose, his daughter. The pacing is slow but purposeful and the people he meets along the way are all affected by his stubborn determination.
