Mary Hussein is a white, English Muslim who converted to marry Ahmed, a cross-channel ferry captain. When Ahmed dies suddenly, Mary discovers that he had another, secret, life in France. She travels to Calais, where she meets Ahmed’s ‘other’ family. She must confront questions, not only about Ahmed but also about herself. A superb performance by Joanna Scanlon who took the BAFTA Best Actress award for this film
