2018; Japan; 130 mins; Cert 15; Dir: Hirokazu Koreeda
On the margins of Tokyo, a ‘family’ of dysfunctional outsiders live together and supplement their meagre incomes with a routine of petty theft. This changes when they take in and shelter a neglected young girl and their motives and habits come under much closer scrutiny. Hard-hitting social comment on modern Japan but told with tenderness and gentle humour.
